This potent sleep tonic features valerian root, a powerful nervine and mild sedative, known for its ability to calm the mind, ease anxiety, and help with insomnia. It’s blended with lemon balm and lavender, which support emotional balance and nervous system resilience. The resulting tonic is earthy, slightly floral, and highly effective for bedtime use.
Terpenes & Actives:
Valerian root: Valerenic acid (sedative, anti-anxiety)
Lemon balm: Rosmarinic acid (soothing, anti-inflammatory)
Lavender: Linalool (anxiolytic, calming)

Equipment

  • Small saucepan with lid
  • Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
  • Teaspoon and tablespoon
  • Glass jar or bottle with lid for storage

Ingredients

  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 1 tbsp dried valerian root
  • 1 tbsp dried lemon balm (or 1.5 tbsp fresh)
  • 1 tsp dried lavender buds
  • 1-2 tsp raw honey or maple syrup (optional, to taste)
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar (optional – improves absorption and flavor balance)
  • 1 slice fresh ginger or orange peel for flavor (optional)

Instructions

Boil Water

  • In a small saucepan, bring the 2 cups of filtered water to a gentle boil.

Add Herbs

  • Once boiling, reduce heat to low. Add valerian root, lemon balm, lavender, and any optional add-ins (ginger/orange peel).

Simmer

  • Cover and let simmer gently for 15–20 minutes.

Steep

  • Turn off the heat and let the mixture steep for an additional 30 minutes with the lid on.

Strain and Sweeten

  • Strain the tonic into a jar. Stir in raw honey and apple cider vinegar if desired. Let cool to room temperature before sealing.

Store and Serve

  • Store in the fridge for up to 5 days. Warm gently before serving if preferred.
