This rosewater is collected via steam distillation. It's more stable than simmered rosewater, with a clean, light floral scent perfect for skincare, emotional soothing, anxiety support, and culinary use. Rich in nerve-calming terpenes like linalool and geraniol, it targets the nervous system and helps reduce stress.
Large pot with tight-fitting inverted lid (preferably dome-shaped)
Heat-safe bowl (glass or ceramic, to catch the distillate)
Trivet or ramekin (to elevate the bowl)
Ice cubes
Tongs
Cheesecloth or Fine mesh strainer
Sterilized glass bottle or amber dropper bottle
Ingredients
2-3cupsfresh organic rose petals(or 1 cup dried - Culinary Grade)
2-3cupsdistilled water
2dropsvitamin E oil(for natural preservation, if used for skin care)
Instructions
Set up the pot
Place your trivet or ramekin in the center of a deep pot.
Set the heat-safe bowl on top of the trivet. This bowl will collect the rosewater distillate.
Add Petals and Water
Scatter your rose petals around (not inside) the bowl. Pour in distilled water just until petals are submerged. Do not overfill; the bowl must stay dry.
Cover and Ice
Invert the lid of the pot (so the handle points down into the pot) and cover tightly.
Put ice cubes on top of the inverted lid. This helps condense the steam into the bowl.
Simmer Slowly
Heat gently. Bring water to a light simmer, not a rolling boil.
Simmer for about 30–45 minutes, replacing melted ice as needed.
Collect the Rosewater
Carefully lift the lid using tongs to check progress.
The condensed steam will drip from the lid handle into the bowl — this is your rose hydrosol.
Cool and Bottle
Once done, let everything cool slightly.
Carefully remove the inner bowl and pour the rosewater into a sterilized glass bottle.
Storage & Shelf Life
Store in the refrigerator for up to 6 months. If adding vitamin E or a small amount of alcohol (like vodka) as preservative, shelf life may extend.
Betsy's Infusion Notes:
🌹 Use only fragrant, pesticide-free and unsprayed rose petals.🛒 Grocery store roses often contain chemicals.💆♀️ Great for facial sprays, 🍵 calming teas, bath soaks, or culinary infusions.👃 This method captures vaporized aromatic compounds better than simmering. Always refrigerate for freshness.
