⚠Caution ⚠
This recipe contains strong nervines and sedative herbs (e.g., wild lettuce, skullcap, CBN, kava). Avoid using this recipe before driving, operating machinery, or combining with alcohol.
These herbs may interact with prescribed pain medications (opioids, benzodiazepines, muscle relaxants, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and sleep aids), potentially increasing sedation, impairing motor coordination, or leading to dangerous respiratory depression. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before using herbal sedatives alongside prescription or over-the-counter medications.

This soothing syrup combines the calming effects of wild lettuce and hops, perfect for easing nerve-driven pain and promoting restful sleep. A natural alternative to prescription painkillers, this syrup works to alleviate the discomfort associated with neuropathy, restless leg syndrome, and other nerve-related issues.
This Wild Lettuce & Hops Sleep Syrup is designed specifically for neuropathic pain relief by combining two potent herbal remedies: wild lettuce and hops. Equipment

  • saucepan
  • Strainer or cheesecloth
  • stirring spoon
  • Glass jar or bottle for storage
  • Funnel (optional for easier pouring)

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried wild lettuce leaves
  • cups dried hops flowers
  • cups water
  • 1 cup honey (or maple syrup for a vegan option)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional, for brightness)

Instructions

Prepare Herbal Infusion

  • In a saucepan, add water, wild lettuce, and hops flowers.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, then reduce to low heat. Let it simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Once the herbs have steeped, remove from heat and allow the mixture to sit for 12 hours (you can leave it on the counter, covered, overnight). This steeping process extracts the beneficial compounds from the herbs.

Strain the Herbal Mixture

  • After steeping, strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a clean bowl, discarding the plant material.
  • The resulting herbal infusion should be around 1 cup of liquid. If you have more, you can reduce it by simmering it on low heat for another 10-15 minutes.

Make the Syrup

  • Pour the strained herbal infusion back into the saucepan.
  • Add the honey (or maple syrup) and lemon juice (if using). Stir the mixture well to combine.
  • Bring it to a low simmer over low heat, stirring constantly, for about 5-10 minutes, until the syrup thickens slightly. Be careful not to overheat it, as high temperatures can destroy some of the beneficial properties of the honey.

Store the Syrup

  • Remove the syrup from heat and let it cool slightly.
  • Pour the syrup into a glass jar or bottle using a funnel for ease. Seal the jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Serve

  • To serve, take 1 tablespoon of syrup in the evening before bed. You can also add it to a warm cup of herbal tea or water if you prefer.
