⚠️ Caution: This recipe contains strong nervines and sedative herbs (e.g., wild lettuce, skullcap, CBN, kava). Avoid using this recipe before driving, operating machinery, or combining with alcohol.
These herbs may interact with prescribed pain medications (opioids, benzodiazepines, muscle relaxants, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and sleep aids), potentially increasing sedation, impairing motor coordination, or leading to dangerous respiratory depression. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before using herbal sedatives alongside prescription or over-the-counter medications.
Wild Lettuce: Known for its sedative, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties, wild lettuce has been traditionally used to calm nerve pain and aid in sleep. It helps to relax the muscles and reduce pain signals, especially in cases of neuropathic pain.
Skullcap: This herb is a powerful nervine that helps to calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and relieve pain. It has mild sedative properties and can aid in relieving the symptoms of anxiety and tension, providing relief for **neuropathic pain**.
🌱 Terpenes: Wild Lettuce contains caryophyllene and myrcene, which contribute to its anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. Skullcap contains apigenin and flavonoids, offering calming and anti-anxiety benefits.

Equipment

  • Double boiler or heatproof glass bowl
  • Small glass jar or container
  • Fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth
  • Small saucepan or pan
  • Dropper or pipette for adding essential oils or cannabis oil (optional)

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup cup unsalted butter (or coconut oil for a dairy-free option)
  • 1 tbsp dried wild lettuce
  • 1 tbsp dried skullcap
  • 1 tbsp dried lavender (optional for added calming effect)
  • 1 tsp vitamin E oil (optional, for skin healing)
  • ½ tsp beeswax (optional, for thicker consistency)
  • 1-2 tbsp cannabis-infused coconut oil (optional, for added pain relief and relaxation)

Instructions

Infuse the Herbs

  • Melt the butter (or coconut oil) using a double boiler, or in a small saucepan over low heat. Once melted, reduce the heat to a simmer.
  • Add wild lettuce, skullcap, and optional lavender to the melted butter. Stir gently to ensure the herbs are evenly distributed.
  • Infuse the mixture on low heat for about 4 hours (or overnight if using a slow cooker or double boiler method). Stir occasionally and make sure the temperature remains low to avoid burning the herbs.

Strain the Herbs

  • After 4 hours of infusing, strain the butter through a fine mesh strainer or cheesecloth into a glass jar or container to remove the herbs. Discard the plant material or compost it.

Add Optional Ingredients

  • If you desire a thicker consistency or additional skin benefits, add beeswax and stir until melted.
  • Add vitamin E oil (for skin healing) and cannabis-infused coconut oil (for additional relaxation and pain relief). Stir well to combine.

Cool and Store

  • Allow the nerve butter to cool and solidify at room temperature, then store in the refrigerator for optimal freshness and longer shelf life.

Application

  • Apply a small amount of the nerve butter to areas where you feel nerve pain or discomfort. Massage gently into the skin. Can be used 1-2 times a day for relief.

Betsy's Infusion Notes:

🥬 Wild Lettuce: This herb is known for its mild sedative and analgesic properties, which can be especially helpful for neuropathic pain and muscle relaxation.
💀 Skullcap: Provides calming effects, making it ideal for pain relief linked to nervous system stress or conditions such as restless leg syndrome and nerve damage.
🪻 Lavender: Optional, but this can enhance the calming and soothing properties of the butter, especially for those who have trouble relaxing.
🐝 Beeswax: If you want to create a thicker balm-like consistency, beeswax can be added. This is especially useful if you plan to use the butter for topical massage or for a skin healing salve.
🟢 Cannabis-Infused Coconut Oil: This is an optional ingredient that provides an extra boost of pain relief and relaxation. It also makes the nerve butter more potent for those dealing with chronic pain or muscle spasms.
🌿Benefits:
This Wild Lettuce & Skullcap Nerve Butter provides targeted relief for neuropathic pain, stress, and anxiety.
