Instructions
Prepare Cannabis-Infused Cream or Butter (Optional Custom Step)
- If you don’t already have an infused cream or butter, here’s how:
- In a small saucepan, gently heat 1 cup of heavy cream (or coconut cream) with ½ gram of decarboxylated cannabis (preferably CBN-rich) on low heat (160–180°F) for 2 hours.
- Stir occasionally and keep covered to prevent evaporation.
- Strain through cheesecloth into a jar. Use immediately or refrigerate.
Cook the Pasta
- Bring salted water to a boil.
- Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente.
- Drain and set aside, reserving ½ cup of the pasta water.
Make the Cream Sauce
- In a medium pan over medium-low heat, warm poppy seed oil and cannabis-infused cream/butter.
- Add minced shallots and garlic; sauté until soft and fragrant (about 3–5 minutes).
- Add lemon balm, thyme, poppy seeds, and lemon zest.
- Pour in 1 cup of cream and bring to a gentle simmer.
- Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring often.
- If too thick, add a bit of reserved pasta water. If a smoother consistency is desired, blend sauce in a high-speed blender.
Combine and Serve
- Toss drained pasta into the sauce until evenly coated.
- Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and black pepper.
- Plate and garnish with herbs, extra poppy seeds, or lemon zest.
- Serve warm in bowls
Betsy’s Infusion Notes:
🌿Flavor Profile: Creamy, earthy, and slightly nutty from the poppy seeds and infused cream Light citrus from lemon zest Herbal notes of lemon balm, thyme, and cannabis terpenes A grounding, aromatic base with soft floral bitterness
Therapeutic Notes: Cannabis (CBN-rich): Soothes nerve pain, promotes relaxation, reduces spasticity Poppy Seeds: Gentle sedative properties, rich in magnesium and calcium Lemon Balm: Calming, anxiolytic, nervous system supportive Thyme: Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, circulatory tonic Terpenes (like myrcene, linalool, and beta-caryophyllene) support sedation, pain relief, and nerve modulation CBN-rich cannabis is especially ideal for this dish. If you can’t access CBN, high-myrcene strains like Granddaddy Purple or Blueberry also work well.
The infusion step can be done in advance and stored refrigerated for up to 1 week. Poppy seeds must not be confused with opium poppies. Culinary poppy seeds are safe and legal, though they may cause a false positive on drug screenings. Add crushed walnuts or hemp seeds for extra anti-inflammatory omega-3 support. This recipe is deeply calming and best enjoyed in the evening or during high pain episodes when rest is ideal.
